Other odds and ends...

I'm not a fan of telly. The television's always on in my house; I dislike it. Intensely. I watch two hours of telly a week- one on Monday for Castle and one on Friday for Grimm. Although, now my parents have Beauty and the Beast on on Thursday and I sort of like it. /sigh

 

I'm a video gamer. That fact might surprise people a bit. Legend of Zelda, anyone? And Harvest Moon. I also like a variety of video games that people have probably never heard of like Okami, Okamiden, and the Persona series. Zelda is a battle game, although the goal is to save the world. Harvest Moon is a role play game, where you take on the role of a farmer. Okami and Okamiden are fighting to save the world again. Persona is... fighting to save the world... This is terribly tedious, but these games are wonderful.

 

I'm an Anglophile.

Which means that I love and appreciate British culture and etc. British things. Seriously, I just want a Union Jack pillow and I'll be pretty bloody pleased. My parents are annoyed that I go around pronouncing pasta pah-sta, aluminum al-oo-mini-um, chuffed instead of pleased, and using bloody as a replacement for expletives. I'm into British things that Americans have never probably heard of! I... I'm weird.

 

I'm terrible with comedy, but two [British] programmes have ensnared me. One is Cabin Pressure and the other is John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme. They are both created by John Finnemore, and I think they're hilarious.

 

My favourite movie [again, British] is Third Star. I wrote a review on that not so long ago, so I'm not going to repeat myself. But I love the movie. Sherlock Holmes, both movies, are my other two in the top three.

 

I have a Sherlock Holmes movie display in my bedroom. So, walking into my [very cluttered] bedroom, you see Robert Downey Jr.'s face immediately and Jude Law right behind him. I love it. Haha.

 

I also like Pokemon. Yes.

 

I'm a nerd, I'm obsessive over things that I love, I'm geeky and, otherwise, pretty quiet. And a bit boring. Haha.

 

Now, the update. Only one, actually. I have something planned for the near future, and while it's not absolutely positively for sure at the moment, it will be exciting. And I can't say anything more than that at the moment, but will update this blog again when I find out for sure.

 

Just be excited... There's a surprise in the making! :D

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BOB!

 

For those who didn't know, today is our own Bob Robinson's birthday. He doesn't know that I'm writing this blog, and he won't until after I tell him that I updated the blog. He'll probably be surprised? I'm not entirely sure, but this is the best that I can do at the moment.

 

So, happy birthday, Bob!

 

I owe you a lot for giving me the opportunity to work for CNO. Letting me expand on the website, aka, this blog, putting up with my crazy ideas, aka, the float in the parade, and still somehow managing to put trust in me for what you need.

 

You gave me a chance to further my reporting experience, as well, what with the addition of a camera. [And it helps. I might be terrible at picture taking, or what pictures to take, but it helps. It's nice.]

 

Everyone has you to thank, every single viewer of CNO. If it wasn't for Bob, we wouldn't have County News Online. And if we didn't have this wonderful website, I know a few people who would be a little upset. Just a bit, you know. :p But, seriously, everyone who reads the original website and now, consequently, my blog, should be thanking Bob. And wishing him a happy birthday.

 

Hopefully you've had a wonderful birthday, Bob. Keep up the great work on CNO! Once again, thank you for the opportunity to further my writing skills.

The Bad Blogger's Back!

Yep, okay, I'm a terrible blogger. And I've got to work on this I'm going to post once a month! thing. My thoughts are usually boring and uninteresting, and to prevent the viewers of CNO from being bored and uninterested, I don't write a blog. But, here's some more uninteresting and boring thoughts, and hopefully, you don't get too bored or uninterested.

• Hallow's Eve is almost here! Okay, don't tell me it's not for another month, because... Well, I was worried about my costume at the end of August, I think. Now, I'm not going trick-or-treating. But trick-or-treating is my next point.

• Why is trick-or-treating only for the kiddies? I mean... I like sweets. People much, much older than me still like sweets! So, why is trick-or-treating only for kids? Because we've made it into a social norm to have trick-or-treating for the kiddies? And now, when someone older than twelve tries to go trick-or-treating, they get told that they shouldn't get candy. I understand if everyone went trick-or-treating, there'd be no candy on the shelves because you'd have to supply the whole town, but... Ehhh. It's a thought on my mind. Nonetheless, I'm not going trick-or-treating. But why in the world wouldn't I dress up to hand out candy? I'm such a kid at heart. :P

• A new show airs tonight on the telly. It's called Elementary. It's a personal blow to my being. Haha, okay, I'm being dramatic, but that's all I've been since I heard about this show, so... Anyway, Elementary is basically a modernization of Sherlock Holmes. (Sounds like BBC's Sherlock, eh? I won't even get into that.) But, look! It's not in London! John Watson isn't Sherlock Holmes's companion! It's now Joan Watson. A woman. Definitely about the farthest thing that Sir Arthur Conan Doyle originally wrote. I understand that it's a) a modernization, so it can be dodgy, anyway, and b) there won't be any sort of romantic interest between Watson and Holmes. But, putting Holmes with a woman as a partner? Holmes had a hard heart when it came to women in the original books. And saying that Joan and Holmes will have the same relationship as the original Holmes-and-Watson... well, Watson wasn't a woman, and you can't replicate that bond. In my opinion. But, I'm a terribly defensive fan of the original books, so I'm a bit offended. Nevertheless... I won't be watching it, but I don't want to put any of the viewers who might want to be see it off of it. This is just my opinion. I've been stating it to whoever wants to know my opinion about the idea of the show. Even though you didn't ask... well, it's on my mind, and, now, I guess, it's on yours!

• Shawnee Prarie is hosting their annual Prairie Days this weekend. Expect a story from me on the CNO site, as well as pictures. I just hope it's not going to be ridiculously cold. I've broken out my "trenchcoat [aka, long coat that my Mother calls my winter coat]. I might end up grabbing my gloves. Laugh it up. I'm always cold.

• I've found John Finnemore [in the sense that I found his programmes, and not him in real life, because if I had, I'd be... estastic right now]. He's this British bloke, and he write radio programmes, he's a regular on the British Now show, and... he's brilliant. My two favourite ideas that's he's written are the British radio programmes Cabin Pressure and John Finnemore's Souvenir Programme. They're both comedies, but they tackle some issues and hit the problems on the head. Cabin Pressure is available on iTunes [I think... I don't have an iPod or anything, but that's what I've heard] and Audio CDs and Souvenir Programme is currently on the radio each Thursday and can be listened to on BBC's Radio 4's website. Just if you want a laugh.

On a bit more of a personal note, I got my hair cut and dyed. It's pretty much all layered and, generally, reaches my shoulders. It's a, um, technical wine colour now. I've been told it takes a burgandyish tone in the light? I like it, but I like redheads. A lot of people don't, but that's them. I'm also adventuring into unknown region... and I'm pretty sure that I've lost whatever sane part of my mind I had... fan mail! Yes, I've written a letter to a celebrity, in London, sending a photograph and a drawing and some fanfiction [for those who don't know, fanfiction is, uhm... writing about a character or scenario from a book/telly show/radio programme/etc, for fun and not for profit, obviously] to this guy that I sort of idolize. And I'm pretty sure... that I've lost my mind... because... I've never done anything as extreme as fan mail... but I hear he responds, and thus, it prompted me to do this, and... Hahah. I am such a huge dork, but that's alright. Celebrity's Andrew Scott, by the way. (He's in Sherlock.)

Back to School? Ha, That's Not for Me!

Well, well, well. Look who's gone back to school. Not me, that's for sure!

That point of my somewhat (very) taunting entrance into this post is that school's back in session. I've decided- it's so very odd to not be going back to school. Not that I don't like the freedom, because, oh my gosh, I do. But. (Because there's always a 'but'...) The free time does get a bit boring. I'm still on my job search. Wish me luck, everyone!

So, I didn't go to college. If you guys thought I was going to, surprise, surprise, eh? The truth behind the matter is, I think you either have the talent in writing or you don't. I've been told that I have talent- I believe I have talent, but I also believe I had a lot to improve on- so I'm not rushing right into college. Sure, there's grammar and structure and point of views and other technicalities that can be taught, but... I suppose I'm coming off as a bit of a pompous person, hm? Partially my other reason for not going off to college, I know that I want to be a novelist, but what will I do in my downtime? I'm not sure. Without knowing, I'm not wanting to put money into learning something that I may never use. So, I'm taking my time to think a few things through.

Since school time is here, that means that the fair has come and gone. Did everyone have fun? I had an enjoyable time. There's a few commentaries on CNO's page, so if you haven't read those and you want to, go right ahead. My thoughts on the fair are pretty much contained in those commentaries. It was good, though!

Weather alert! Rain alert! We're going to get some rain! (Let's not jinx it now!) We really need the rain, though. No storms, thanks, considering the late bad consequences of thunderstorms, but just some rain. Does anybody else miss the smell of rain?

Hopefully the rain sticks to this weekend and not the next, because next weekend, September 7th is the First Friday of the Month! Which means, Broadway's First Friday jamboree (not the right word, but I don't have a right word) will be happening. I hear there's going to be fire breathers and stilt walkers, mimes and such this time around. I've never been uptown during one of these, and I'm planning on going this time, so if I manage that, you should see a story from me. Or, if you're bored and have nothing to do, it's probably worth checking out.

Something else that I have been checking out: the Halloween displays at the local stores. It's two months from now; so what? It's never too early to start planning for Hallow's Eve. I go out of my way to decorate my house even though we're in the boondocks and no one really sees it. And I go to a friend's house to hand out candy, in costume. Because I can't very well go trick-or-treating anymore... but I love dressing up. This year, my costume, you ask? Planning on a character from the telly show Grimm. Full out makeup. We'll see how it works. If it looks good, I'll snap a picture for CNO.

Fair, Allergies, and Weather, Oh My!

I've been pretty dang lax in my blogging attempts as of late. I want to apologize for that. But, here's another post.

Let me first give the obligatory statement:

Have a great time at the fair!

Now that that sentiment is out of the way, let me continue about the fair.

It's fair time! I am beyond excited. However, I'm not such a big fan of the fair. It's an oxymoron, isn't it? I'm just excited for the food and getting to see friends that I haven't in some time. It's a social outing. I need a social outing. I need to work off some boredom.

I'll be wandering about out there; if you see me (and recognize me), feel free to say hello or stop me. I'll be slinking about not only as myself, but as the reporter as well, so I'd love to talk with our readers if the chance arises. You'll be seeing articles on the main website from me as well, news and opinion and probably some commentary. (I make it a point to eat something that is oddly deep-fried each year. I'll write a story afterwards. I'm still not sure what I'm going to get this year...)

Second obligatory statement:

I feel terrible for every single person who has allergies. I hope you feel better.

I never had a problem with allergies. Now, now, I'm being stalked by something that seems to me to be allergies. Itchy nose. Tight throat. Itchy, watery eyes. Gah. I also seem to be maybe (?) becoming lactose intolerant? I don't know about that, really. First it was feeling icky after hot chocolate. Then it was the ice cream blizzards. Then milkshakes. Now lattes? I don't know. Don't mean to complain. Orange milkshakes from McDonalds are absolutely amazing, though. Don't get me wrong.

Third obligatory statement:

... Well, it's not exactly obligatory as it is a question, but... anyone else disturbed by the weather?

I don't like the cold. I don't like anything near cold. These low seventies are driving me crazy. I think I have poor circulation or something; fingers and toe are always cold, cold, cold. Like I've had them in an ice box. So, I'm irritated. I like a bit of hot weather. It's going to be a little cold for me at the fair this year. I think it's the first time I'll have to wear a jacket? (I'm always cold. Laugh it up. Yeah, if you want to find me at the fair, I'll be wearing a leather jacket. Haha.) Thankfully, though, it seems like the rain is going to stay away, so that's good.

So, you guys enjoy the fair. Grab some food, see some friends, listen to Foreigner. Wave to the reporters trying to take photos. (Yeah, Bob lent me a camera. I can take my own pictures now! -so happy-)

Last but not least, I can say that I'm really excited about the fair because this is the first year that the fair doesn't mean having to go back to school. Thank you school, for the graduation in June. :P

Doctor Watson, I went into ER today. I looked for you. I was highly disappointed to find that you were not working. No doctor could ever match up to you in my eyes.

Well, that is true, that little paragraph. Mom and I were taken to the ER via ambulance today. Nothing really bad... Ended with a bad bump on my head (I thought I had a concussion, but apparently not, thank goodness!) and a broken nose for Mother. Okay, well, that doesn't exactly sound not bad, but... you know.

I was fine, Mum was fine, and I was left saying 'Oh my goodness, is my head going to turn purple for the parade on Saturday because then I'm going to look stupid if it does!' On top of the occasional, 'Where's John?' because a) I'm a dork and b) I was bored. (For those who don't get it, John was Sherlock Holmes' assistant/companion/doctor.)

So, it was cold in the hospital, but the ambulance ride was mildly intriguing. I never, ever want to be a doctor (and never, ever want to be back in an ambulance, knock on wood), but a lot in the field still interests me. Considering that I was fully awake and functioning, I was just kinda... looking. At everything. And laughing at the air conditioner because it made a funny noise and the EMT probably thought I was a bit barmy, but that's me.

So, I'm not going to go into details; it's all so terribly stupid about what happened, Mum keeps explaining it to family, and I keep laughing. Let's just say the thunderstorms this morning caused a big bang. In more ways than one...

Anyhoo, that's the mild update of my life. My head hurts. If you happen to see that I have a purple/blackish/blueish thing on my head during the parade, just wave and smile. ;D Me, personally, I'll be waving back and then looking for the EMT that took us in- she'll be running in the 5K.

Interesting day. And it's only two o' clock. Here's hoping for fun later on! (Of the good kind.)

Just another publicity stunt

... Except it isn't.

I can say it officially now: County News Online is going to be featured in the one, the only, Annie Oakley Parade!

I went through a bunch of back-and-forth with Bob (he's working with Key Club for this go-round), but by the end of it, he said that if I could manage to find people, then we could do it.

And, because I'm so impressively stubborn (Bob knows this now :P), I've managed to get everything together; my people, my plans, and we are officially accepted into the line-up.

It's my second time ever being in the parade (first time was with FunDay Bunch- Daily Advocate; you seeing a pattern here?) but my first time actually putting a... float... car... trailer... thing... whatever you wanna call it, together. After much debate, and many thoughts, I've come to a solid conclusion as to what I want to do.

Two things that I'll say:

One) I've incorporated two things that I love into this- writing, and Sherlock Holmes. Because Sherlock Holmes always has to be there, right? :P

Two) The people riding with me aren't necessarily part of CNO, but they have an ardent love of the arts, whether it be reading, writing, drawing, photography... and they're all a wonderful group.

If you happen to join the crowds to watch the parade, look for us! Wave at us! We might not wave back... and you'll see why ;) but I very much appreciate all of the fans of CNO that have kept us going, gotten us to the point we are, and I am honoured to have the opportunity to head something that will help to publicize our website.

In the Words of Sherlock Holmes Without a Case...

"Bored!"

Any other time, summer was a blessing. I mean, yeah, it still is, but now I'm left with a question in my mind as to "What am I supposed to do now?" The fact that I won't be going back to GHS after the fair is both wonderful and... boring, maybe? After twelve years of school, it's a routine; now it feels weird to not have anything to do. As for stuff I could be doing...

"There is nothing new under the sun. It has all been done before..."

Get a job, yes. I  am working on that one. But, really, what else is there to do here? Greenville's a bit boring... don't mind me, I do love Greenville... but for the kids and the teenagers? Um, let's see. Swimming, okay. That's okay. And, um, well, there's probably summer sports or something, right? I've never been a sports person so I'm not sure.

But... am I just overreacting when I say I feel like there's nothing to do? Especially when I'm in the middle of the country with Ansonia and Versailles as my neighbors. Don't get me wrong, I love the towns... namely Versailles... but what's to do? When I was younger, I'd used to go to the playground, but I've grown a bit out of that, yeah?

Something I like to do is go to the library, but that's a year-round thing, not just a summer thing. There is the Reading Program in the summer, though; that's a bit nice. Why can't we, I don't know, have a Reading Festival or something once in awhile, in the city? We have a Car Show, which isn't much fun for me, for people my age. I understand why we have a car show. It's cool, for the people who appreciate that stuff. History is nice, but old cars... walking down the street... bunch of people... The only outstanding memory I have of the Car Show is when Broadway Joe's (I think it was them, I could be wrong) lowered smoothie prices to a buck. That was exciting.

I guess what I'm getting at... I'd love for something to happen in Greenville, something that is more directed at the younger generations. A Book Club or a parade or a festival for the younger generation or... well, I don't really know, but I think it'd be a bit nice. Something to unbored me, and the rest of kids who may be bored. And why not do it in a good way? Avoid trouble... Because you know teens are more likely to get in trouble when they have nothing to do.

But, I dunno. It's nothing that I can accomplish on my own, that's for sure, but... -Shrugs- I don't know, maybe I'm the only one who thinks the youngsters need something to do. Maybe it's just me! Haha!

Well, the science of boredom will be faltered this weekend for the upcoming events and fireworks, so I'm excited for that! Have a happy fourth! And, there is a place to comment on my blog... I think I have it set so you don't have to have an account... and there's tick boxes for you to click your reactions... I'm always interested in what people are thinking in response to me. 

Now we have a blog!

Or, actually, I have a blog that will hopefully entertain the ones that actually take the time to read it.

Notes of interest:

• The Science of Deduction and the layout (to some mildly impersonated attempt) belong to BBC's Sherlock. I'm kind of trying to combine John Watson's blog and Sherlock's Consulting website. I think it's a wonderful idea. (I realize that pretty much no one knows what I'm talking about! :D)

• I'll work more on the layout, get some entertaining stuff in here, in the near future.

• I don't know how often I'll update. It'll just be on a 'This is on my mind' basis. I'll try to get at least one note of interest every week, though, if I can...
